BRIDGE OF DON BAPTIST CHURCH

24-7 Prayer

As a Church we have made a commitment to spending 24-7 in prayer in both the run up to Pentecost Sunday and the run up to Advent Sunday. In November 2008, our youth committed to a weekend of praying throughout the day and night for the city of Aberdeen.

After a lot of planning, fun, and a lack of sleep, the whole church saw many prayers answered and a passion for prayer was kindled amongst the congregation.

  • This however was only the start. In May 2009, the whole congregation signed up to continuous prayer for seven days. There were some reservations to begin with, but as people visited the prayer room and spent time praying for one another and our community, the passion for prayer grew.

People began to understand the joy of spending hours in the middle of the night, in the presence of God, surrounded by the prayers of others. We finished up our week with a time of worship for all ages. We sang together, prayed together and got messy together. At last it was recognised that prayer and worship is for everyone to take part in and that it didn’t need to simply be hour after hour spent on your knees in silence (the paint covered kids showed otherwise).

With everyone ‘on board’ we set up prayer room 3 in November 2009. This time round our prayer room had more of a theme of community, with space to discuss and pray together as well as individually. As a church we took time out of busy lives in the run up to Christmas to ask God what He wants us to be doing. Everyone who spent time in the room during the week requested that the space be available right up until Christmas as a sanctuary during this very busy time.

So that took us to May 2010 and prayer room number 4. Looking to room 5, there are still prayers to be lifted up, lives to be shared, and time to be taken out of busy lives... you can be part of that.

From the upper room of Pentecost and ancient Celtic monasteries, via the Moravian hundred-year prayer meeting and the outrageously inter-racial prayer room of Azusa Street right up to the modern day 24-7 phenomenon, non-stop prayer has marked some of the Church’s most astonishing moments... Now you can be part of it!!!
